THE NATIONAL ORGANIC PROGRAM (NOP)

Created by an act of the US Congress and administered by the United States Dept of Agriculture (USDA), the National Organic Program (NOP) is a regulatory program housed within the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) which is responsible for developing and enforcing national standards for organically-produced agricultural products.

The ‘organic’ label is regulated by the national government, which sets legal standards for its use.  Anyone doing business in the US and wishing to use this label in marketing food and fiber products must be certified by an NOP accredited certification agency.usda organic logo
